70 years of happy marriage - with ups and downs

Grace wedding in the ASB facility "Parkresidenz am Neckar" in Heidelberg-Ziegelhausen

(Mannheim/Heidelberg, 22.10.2021) Änne and Gottfried are beaming: They have been married for 70 years. They are now celebrating their gracious wedding anniversary at "Parkresidenz am Neckar". The couple moved into the nursing home two years ago. They live in a small apartment overlooking the Neckar River. "That was very important, especially for Gottfried" tells Änne Hoßfeld. Previously, they lived just a few houses away from the facility in an apartment, also with a view of the Neckar. Änne is now 93 years old, Gottfried 96. Both are still spry and fit and hope to spend many more pleasant hours at the Parkresidenz. "We feel very comfortable here," says Änne. Everything is taken care of and the nursing staff is friendly and attentive.

Love began in Ziegelhausen after World War 2

Änne will never forget the day when her Gottfried returned from captivity in 1949. She wanted to wave to him and hit a bus on her bike. Gottfried rushed to her aid and fell in love with the pretty girl with the long red braids. They had known each other before, both were born in Ziegelhausen and were in the church choir together. Then came the children, six in number, as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A large family, some of whom still live in Ziegelhausen today.

Marriage with ups and downs

The two have experienced and overcome many things together, such as serious illnesses in the family or professional changes. Änne worked as a milliner in Heidelberg, Gottfried as operations manager at the post office in Neckargemünd. "We always stuck together, no matter what," says Gottfried. In general, the trust and mutual support in the large family was the most important thing in their lives, he says.

Nursing professions - Better than the reputation

Nursing professions have a secure future. "We pay according to the collective wage agreement and offer other benefits," emphasizes Joachim Schmid, Managing Director of ASB Baden-Württemberg e.V. Region Mannheim/Rhein-Neckar. He adds that reliable working hours, a functioning vacation schedule and, above all, time for the diverse tasks are important.

ASB Mannheim/Rhein-Neckar operates five senior citizens' homes, three of which are in the Rhine-Neckar district and two in Heidelberg, as well as a senior citizens' advisory service and offers for outpatient care services, day care and assisted living. In the "Parkresidenz am Neckar " facility, 75 places are available for fully inpatient care, and 20 apartments are offered in the assisted living sector. The new building, which will be completed in July 2019, has modern and bright rooms, some with a view of the Neckar River. There are spacious lounge areas in each of the six residential groups, and the dining area in each residential group is equipped with an open kitchen. The ASB Mannheim/Rhine-Neckar Region in Heidelberg Ziegelhausen currently employs 75 people. Fek
