Civil Protection

The term civil protection refers to all tasks and measures of the federal government in civil protection as well as the tasks and measures of the municipalities and federal states in disaster control.

Civil protection is always deployed when the damage situation becomes so great that the forces of the "normal" regular rescue service and the fire department are not sufficient to combat the damage that has occurred or the imminent danger. Such situations can be natural or man-made disasters such as floods, bomb evacuations or even a power failure.

In the event of a major emergency, ASB's disaster relief volunteers get involved to provide the population with the best possible assistance. This is done in close cooperation with other aid organizations, fire departments and the relevant authorities.

In Germany, civil protection is regulated and administered by the federal states and, in the federal states, by defined supervisory authorities. It is part of a larger system for protecting and ensuring the safety of the population.

What does ASB do in disaster control?

In order to be able to provide comprehensive and targeted assistance in various damage situations and emergencies, the civil protection team at Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund is divided into various specialist services. In these, the helpers are trained accordingly and receive special equipment in order to be able to take on the sometimes very different tasks that arise depending on the operation.
In the event of major emergencies, ASB Mannheim/Rhine-Neckar can provide prompt support with its transport component (3 ambulances, 1 rescue vehicle) and the command support component.
