ASB drone task force

Why drones in ASB?

A drone can be an important support for the fire department, rescue service, ambulance service, disaster control and police.

With so-called multicopters, reconnaissance flights can be carried out in the form of searches for people, aerial photography of damage situations or the localization of heat sources, e.g. in the case of roof fires. This targeted use of the drone makes it possible to quickly obtain a better overview of the damage situation or to specifically search for people or animals in rough terrain.

We work closely with the emergency services or the relevant organization and support the respective unit.

The drone task force at ASB Mannheim/Rhine-Neckar Region expands ASB's assistance and rescue services in and for the region. It is alerted via the Mannheim control center, requested by the police, fire department or rescue dog squadron. It is available to disaster control or other specialist departments to use the drone and its sensor technology and technical equipment to obtain a better overview of the damage situation or to search for people or animals in rough terrain.

The image material created can be transmitted directly to the scene of the incident or to emergency services.

Training as a drone pilot

The work of the drone task force is a purely voluntary commitment and places high demands on the emergency services.
For this reason, the team members are systematically prepared for their missions in an approximately one-year training course in the ASB drone team.

The trained emergency personnel have at least the following training:

  • Medical service
  • Organization and operational tactics
  • Operations
  • Radio communication (BOS radio)
  • Maps, compass and GPS
  • Safe behavior during use
  • Drone pilot training according to the current guidelines
  • Knowledge according to air traffic regulations

If you would like to report a missing person, please contact the police by calling 110.
The police will then often cooperate with the local ASB drone task force
