Outpatient hospice service

Who we are and what we offer

As an outpatient hospice service, our qualified staff and volunteers accompany seriously ill and dying people and their relatives on their last journey through life.

The vast majority of people wish to die in their familiar surroundings. That is why we go to people's homes, or to care facilities if this is their last home. Visits to the hospital are also possible.

The focus is on people and their wishes. The preservation of quality of life is important.

What do hospice volunteers do?

The approaching end of life brings with it existential questions and many worries and hardships. Our volunteers provide support in dealing with these challenges.

They give time and a sympathetic ear. They provide space for questions, feelings and needs. Through regular visits, a sustainable relationship can develop that provides support and security. There is someone with whom strong feelings can be expressed and questions to which there are no answers can be asked.

The volunteers listen attentively and with interest, enabling a life review that helps many people to bring their lives to a good conclusion. Or they fulfill small wishes, such as listening to music together or experiencing nature.

They also bring normality to everyday life and dispel boredom and gloomy thoughts.

In the dying phase, conversations are usually no longer possible. Simply being there gives peace and security and alleviates loneliness. Holding a hand, humming softly or even a prayer help you to let go and confide in someone.

We are also there for the relatives. The volunteers give them some space, a little time to run errands or relax. They are also available to talk to them. Sometimes the relatives need us more than the dying person themselves. After all, they are also going through the process of saying goodbye with all the feelings that this entails.

This way we can be there for you:

  • Contact us, this is the first and most important step. Only then can we clarify in an initial conversation what we can do for you.
  • An appointment can then be made with the coordinator for an informative home visit. Your wishes and expectations and our support options can be discussed.
  • The coordinator then selects a hospice companion who best suits your needs and arranges a time and place for you to meet them.
  • The content and frequency of the support will then depend on your wishes and the possibilities for support.
  • We also offer courses, lectures and events on topics related to hospice work, further information can be found here:
Our courses & events

Our service is free of charge for those affected. We are financed by a subsidy from the health insurance companies towards our personnel and material costs as well as donations. In addition, your concerns and data are in good hands with us. Our coordinators and volunteers are bound to confidentiality.
