"Living and dying - these are the big issues".

Christiane Pröllochs is the new coordinator of the outpatient hospice service of the ASB Mannheim/Rhine-Neckar Region

"Hospice work has always been a matter close to my heart," says Christiane Pröllochs during an initial meeting with the volunteers. The qualified pedagogue took over the management on September 1 and will coordinate the outpatient hospice service together with Doris Detering in the future. In recent years, she has been in charge of social services at a nursing home for the elderly in Bremen. With her return to Baden-Württemberg, she has come full circle professionally; for a long time she was involved in the hospice movement in Tübingen. Impressed above all by the accompaniment of dementia patients on their last journey, she wrote the book: "Sterbebegleitung bei Menschen mit Demenz" (End-of-life care for people with dementia).

Focus on collaboration with volunteers.

Appreciative communication and regular exchange with the approximately 30 volunteers is important to Christiane Pröllochs. Some have been with ASB Mannheim/Rhine-Neckar Region for many years and talk about their experiences and encounters. "Volunteer work is what makes the hospice service possible in the first place," she says. In addition to regular group evenings, ASB offers supervision, continuing education and seminars. On October 21 and 22, the next orientation seminar will take place in the rooms of the outpatient hospice service in Edisonstraße in Mannheim-Käfertal. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend; written registration at hospiz@asb-rhein-neckar.de is required.
